Demand Science Acquires Tidings to Enhance Sales Enablement Platform

David Mihm has been a fixture in local search for more than a decade. Those of us who haven’t worked with him directly have probably heard him talk about trends in local at an industry conference.

David partnered with Mike Blumenthal and others to produce Local U. That business, now owned by Sterling Sky, hosts local search seminars and creates other content relevant to the local space. So David is a bona fide thought leader.

‘Acceleration’ Leaving its Mark, Part II: A Conversation with David Mihm

David is also a practitioner. He ran local search strategy at Moz and later he was VP of Product at ThriveHive. And finally, David is an entrepreneur. He landed at Moz after selling his startup GetListed.org to the SEO company in 2012. (As an aside, that deal was announced in an unusual fashion.) And David launched Tidings in 2016 to help businesses easily produce email newsletters that help them engage with their customers.

Next Phase: Demand Science

Today, David moves onto a new phase as Head of Product at Demand Science, a Massachusetts-based “buyer intelligence platform” company that has acquired Tidings for an undisclosed amount.

Demand Science CMO Monica Sullivan discussed the deal with Localogy Insider in an email exchange yesterday. She told us that adding Tidings to its platform has both short and long-term benefits.

“First, customers across the Demand Science portfolio will be able to benefit immediately from Tidings – it is an incredibly user-friendly email newsletter tool that delivers open rates and click rates significantly higher than industry averages that will help them increase engagement with their prospects and customers,” she said.

“And, in the longer term, especially with planned innovations and advancements in data analytics and AI, the integration of Tidings into the Demand Science Global Buyer Intelligence Platform will bring greater value to B2B sales and marketing professionals.”

Relationships Matter

David met Demand Science CEO Peter Cannone at ThriveHive, where Cannone served as CEO until December 2018. He joined Demand Science as CEO in August 2020. A number of Demand Science executives are ThriveHive veterans. In addition to Cannone and now Mihm, these include COO Susan Fazelpoor and VP Product Operations Kate Kelleher.

“I’ve stayed in touch with a number of my former ThriveHive colleagues, including Pete Cannone, and the more we shared with each other about what we were building to create a better experience for sales and marketing pros, the more evident it became that Tidings is a perfect addition to the Demand Science platform,” David told us. “I feel extremely lucky to have found a way to integrate Tidings into a set of solutions that more easily connects B2B businesses and their customers at every stage of the purchase funnel. Also on a personal level, joining a team with so many colleagues I already know well and love working with is a huge plus!”

More About Demand Science

So a bit more about Demand Science. Essentially the company is a sales enablement platform. It offers lead generation and lead nurturing tools, with supporting data and analytics. So it makes sense to add a newsletter tool to the platform. And even more so given the growing popularity (and sophistication) of newsletters as an engagement tool.

Sullivan told us that Tidings reduces the friction involved in creating and distributing email newsletters.

“Too often, the length of time needed to create compelling newsletters is a barrier for sales and marketing teams,” she said. “Tidings overcomes this challenge with its ease of use and all-in-one interface that leverages social platforms. Moving forward, we will make this an even more effective tool for sales and marketing teams. This acquisition furthers our mission to provide solutions for every stage of the demand generation funnel and enabling B2B technology solution providers to accelerate the marketing and sales process and drive revenue.”
