Data: 34% of SMBs Unsatisfied with Performance of Their Websites

There are still a significant number of small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) that don’t have websites, as much as 50% or 60% according to some estimates. And those that do have sites are often unhappy with them.

Roughly one-third (34%) of SMBs with sites are “unsatisfied” with the amount of business they generate. By contrast, 29% are “moderately satisfied” and 28% are “slightly satisfied.” These figures also imply dissatisfaction. Just 9% said they are “definitely satisfied.”

These findings may result from unrealistic traffic expectations: “if I build it, they will come.” An earlier survey found that 42% of SMBs get fewer than 250 monthly visitors. SMBs often place too much emphasis on their sites without understanding the importance of a broader digital marketing program.

The data comes from a new Alignable and GoDaddy white paper titled, “2016 U.S. Small Business Survey.” Conducted in May 2016, around 100,000 SMBs were surveyed. To access the graphic above, click here.
