Scorpion Expands Home Services Focus with Coalmarch Acquisition

Scorpion’s acquisition of Coalmarch Marketing strengthens its pest control and lawn care expertise while advancing a strategy built around specialized marketing services, AI-powered technology, and measurable revenue growth

Scorpion has acquired Coalmarch Marketing, a Raleigh, North Carolina-based digital marketing agency specializing in pest control and lawn care. The acquisition adds established customer relationships, industry expertise, and marketing capabilities to Scorpion’s expanding home services business.

Announced October 19, the transaction brings Coalmarch’s team and more than two decades of experience into Scorpion’s organization. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Vertical Expertise Becomes a Strategic Asset

Founded in 2004, Coalmarch has focused on helping pest control and lawn care businesses grow through SEO, paid search, website development, and industry-specific marketing services. Its specialization is particularly relevant in industries where seasonality, service territories, customer retention, and recurring contracts influence marketing performance.

For these businesses, generating inquiries is only part of the challenge. Marketing must attract customers within profitable service areas, support appointment scheduling, and help turn initial service calls into recurring relationships.

The acquisition is part of Scorpion’s deliberate effort to expand its presence in specialized local service industries. As Kirby Oscar, Scorpion’s SVP of Corporate Development, explained, the investment deepens the company’s vertical commitment and supports its long-term growth strategy.

That strategy depends on preserving the industry knowledge and customer relationships that distinguish specialized marketing providers while introducing broader technology and data capabilities. Coalmarch offers Scorpion an established position in pest control and lawn care that would be difficult to replicate through technology investment alone.

Connecting Marketing Investment to Revenue

A central component of the transaction is access to Scorpion’s RevenueMAX platform, an AI-powered offering designed to connect marketing activity with measurable revenue outcomes rather than lead volume alone. The need for that connection is substantial. Scorpion’s 2026 State of Home Services Marketing Report found that 67% of home services businesses cannot directly connect marketing spending to revenue, while 78% use two or more marketing vendors. Those findings illustrate the fragmentation that can make it difficult for business owners to understand which investments generate customers and profitable growth.

RevenueMAX is designed to address that challenge by connecting customer acquisition activity with business outcomes. Scorpion’s ServiceTitan integration, which links marketing investment with technician capacity and booked jobs, illustrates how marketing intelligence can inform operational decisions.

For a pest control company, that could mean understanding which campaigns generate customers within profitable service territories and whether those customers become recurring accounts. For lawn care businesses, it could support decisions about seasonal spending, service capacity, and customer retention.

The broader shift is toward evaluating marketing through booked jobs, customer value, and revenue rather than clicks and inquiries alone. AI and automation can support that transition, but their value depends on how effectively customer data and operational workflows are connected.

Scorpion Defines the Rapidly-Evolving Home-Services SMB

Scorpion Builds Through Specialized Acquisitions

The Coalmarch transaction follows Scorpion’s acquisition of 1SEO Digital Agency in June 2026, reinforcing a strategy of expanding through businesses with established expertise and customer relationships. As reported following the 1SEO acquisition, that transaction expanded Scorpion’s search marketing capabilities while connecting acquired customers with its broader technology platform. Coalmarch adds a more concentrated industry specialization, particularly in pest control and lawn care.

The strategy comes as local service businesses face a more complicated customer acquisition environment. Scorpion’s 2026 research also found that 80% of home services businesses are uncertain how to appear in AI-driven search results, highlighting the challenges of adapting to changing consumer discovery behavior. As examined in our coverage of that research, the gap between consumer AI adoption and business readiness is creating new demands for local marketing providers.

Scorpion’s September Home Services Growth Summit, featuring OpenAI, TikTok, ServiceTitan, and Thumbtack, further illustrated how AI search, emerging advertising channels, and operational data are changing the way consumers find and hire service providers.

These developments help explain the company’s acquisition strategy. Combining specialized industry knowledge with broader technology capabilities offers a way to address increasingly complex marketing requirements without expecting individual service businesses to manage every component independently.

The Economics of Specialized Local Marketing

The acquisition illustrates why vertical expertise remains valuable even as technology makes campaign execution increasingly automated.

Pest control and lawn care businesses operate in markets shaped by seasonal demand, recurring services, local competition, and customer retention. Understanding those characteristics can influence which customers to pursue, how campaigns are structured, and how performance is measured.

Scorpion’s broader home services strategy reflects these operating realities. In September, we further examined the company’s perspective on the evolving home services market, including the growing influence of AI on consumer discovery and marketing operations.

For Scorpion, Coalmarch provides deeper industry expertise and established customer relationships. For Coalmarch’s clients, the potential benefit is access to additional technology, automation, and measurement capabilities while retaining specialized support.

The challenge will be demonstrating that the combination improves business outcomes. Successful integration will depend on retaining customer relationships, preserving industry knowledge, and delivering measurable improvements in acquisition, retention, and revenue.

Scorpion’s acquisition strategy reflects a market in which vertical expertise, integrated technology, and operational execution are becoming more closely connected.
