Scorpion Deepens Bench with 1SEO Acquisition

SMB-focused digital marketing platform Scorpion has announced the acquisition of search marketing agency 1SEO. With 17 years of experience in digital marketing, and a strong reputation to go along with it, the acquiree strengthens Scorpion’s ability to deliver effective SEO to SMBs, among other things.

1SEO is also a good fit for Scorpion because its capabilities align in lots of ways. For example, it has domain expertise in the verticals where Scorpion has placed its chips. These include home services, healthcare, and legal. Along with multi-location franchises, these are tentpole verticals for Scorpion.

The deal is also well-timed as SEO competency is valuable, as the art of SEO is in a transformative period. The emergence of AI search – and AI SEO (AIO) along with it – means that the playbook for online visibility has been rewritten. Good SEO practitioners are positioned best to navigate that change.

“I’m seeing more and more agencies hitting a ceiling for how far they can take their clients,” Scorpion SVP of Corporate Development, Kirby Oscar told us. “Great service and trust are still the foundation to local marketing, but AI and the pace at which technology is developing has completely disrupted the landscape.”

Connect the Dots

That covers what Scorpion gains from the deal. 1SEO and its clients meanwhile benefit from Scorpion’s RevenueMax platform. For those unfamiliar, this is a revenue optimization engine that helps SMBs devise and enact strategies to grow their top line. It’s proven effective and popular among Scorpion customers.

Additionally, 1SEO and its customers will benefit from tech partnerships that Scorpion has established. For example, its deal with ServiceTitan in home services integrates digital marketing with functions like job bookings and revenue generation. The outcome is to connect the dots for revenue attribution.

Similarly in the legal vertical, Scorpion works with legal-tech leader Clio to connect marketing with functions like client billing. As we examined recently on stage in Houston at Localogy’s L26 conference, these functions together help draw a straight line between marketing dollars and revenue.

“1SEO has the trust and a history of delivering for its clients,” said Kirby. “Our job is to back that trust with the technology and digital marketing solutions those clients need to not only compete but truly thrive in today’s market.”

What’s Next?

As for next steps, the acquisition and technical integrations are already underway. According to Scorpion, 1SEO clients have already begun transitioning to Scorpion’s platform. They ensure that this will mean uninterrupted functionality and support as all the pieces are put together. So things should move quickly.

1SEO CEO BJ Bergey will also join Scorpion post acquisition, participating heavily in client success and growth initiatives. Without knowing acquisition deal terms and potential earn-out components, this is still a positive sign and a confidence signal in Scorpion’s ability to cultivate and amplify 1SEO’s strengths.
