Soci, Smarsh Team Up to Make Compliance Easier

“Compliance” is one of those words that conjures up few inviting images. Actually, it conjures up none. Unless lawyers, paperwork, and unsympathetic regulators give you the warm fuzzies. Yet compliance is a fact of life for businesses. And the more regulated your business is (think mortgages, insurance, and so on), the more of a fact-of-life compliance is. Soci, a cloud-based marketing platform for multi-location brands, is a fixture company in the Localogy-verse. And it deals with many clients with compliance needs.

This week Soci announced a partnership with Smarsh, a company that has been around a while and helps regulated enterprises manage compliance, largely around record-keeping.

Social Content Compliance

According to this week’s announcement, “The partnership will enable organizations using Smarsh for communications archiving and supervision to add SOCi’s social media moderation and review capabilities.”

So it seems that social media content is falling more and more under the compliance umbrella. This makes sense. After all, companies are communicating more and more with customers via social media, including responding to reviews.

According to Crunchbase, Smarsh was founded in 2001 by Stephen Marsh (I guess that’s where “Smarsh” comes from). The company “provides cloud-based archiving and compliance solutions for companies in regulated and litigious industries.”

Quick. Think of an industry that is neither regulated nor litigious.

If you have ever heard some version of the advice, “Don’t put it in an email if you are not willing to have it projected on a screen in court” you have a pretty good sense of how important this stuff is.

We reached out to SOCi SVP Richard Lumsden to explain the importance of this relationship to us a bit further. In Richard’s view, this is about getting ahead of and staying ahead of the expanding need for compliance.

“In the dynamic landscape of regulated industries, compliance isn’t just a checkbox; it’s a strategic imperative. Our alliance with Smarsh is a response to the pressing needs for regulatory businesses and addresses this head-on, providing a cohesive solution for multi-location enterprises to meet compliance needs seamlessly,” Lumsden told Localogy Insider.

“In an era where regulatory scrutiny is intensifying, SOCi and Smarsh stand at the forefront. Not only by streamlining social media management but setting the standard for how businesses navigate the intricate web of regulations. This ensures they not only comply but thrive in an environment that demands both vigilance and innovation.”
