Wix Rolls Out SEO Dashboard

The website platform Wix has rolled out a new SEO dashboard. The dashboard is designed as a single stop for all things SEO to sites managed on its platform.

According to today’s announcement of the new dashboard, the new dashboard “includes SEO tools, educational materials tailored to different skill levels, and new integration with Google Search Console, which provides valuable information on site performance on search results.”

Offering SEO capabilities seems to be emerging as a key point of differentiation among site-builder platforms.

For example, we recently reported that Wix rival Duda formed a partnership with Bridgeline to integrate the WooRank SEO auditing app into its platform.

Helping SEO Professionals

Wix’s executive in charge of its SEO-related products said the new dashboard helps SEO professionals manage their workflows more effectively.

“We’re dedicated to providing our users and SEO professionals with the tools they need for seamless workflows in order for them to achieve their business goals vs build brand awareness and drive traffic to their site,” said Einat Hoobian-Seybold, SEO Product Lead at Wix.

“The SEO Dashboard, with the extended integration with Google Search Console, aligns with our mission to help users at any skill level understand how their site is performing. And it helps inform them on what needs their attention. We look forward to developing more features. Plus adding additional reports and actionable insights to help our users in their optimization process.”

We asked our go-to SEO ninja, Local SEO Guide’s Andrew Shotland, for his broader take on SEO dashboards. He says they are generally helpful to day-to-day SEO practitioners, as Hoobian-Seybold suggests. Shotland believes one risk with dashboards, particularly for non-professional users like SMBs, can be that the amount of data shared through these platforms can be overwhelming.

“Dashboards are often more useful for the people actually doing the work than for the person who wants to improve their SEO,” Andrew said. “In Wix’s case, there are probably a lot of DIYers [do-it-yourself-ers] so it should be helpful. That said, there are a lot of SMBs who likely will find this to be info-overload.”

So the latter point has echoes of a longstanding critique of software dashboards. We have heard it over the years in the discussion about getting SMBs to engage with software. Where is the right balance between providing a robust and easy-to-use dashboard and overwhelming the small business user?

Wix appears to believe it has cracked this code with its new SEO dashboard.
