What’s the fate of Facebook (Meta), given its latest brush with lawmakers? And what are the best tactics to communicate advanced tech to your market? These questions represent the latest batch of Localogy Quick Takes. That makes this week’s release a double-shot from host James Ward. 

Starting with Facebook, Ward takes us through the latest happenings. Specifically, the FTC may add more firepower to the justic department’s existing efforts to potentially break Facebook up. But nothing will happen for a while, and could involve a “shakeup” rather than a “breakup,” says Ward.

In other words, a breakup requires mass litigation. Lower-hanging fruit may lie with Facebook’s efforts to fend off a breakup by demonstrating change. That means modifying its systems of data collection. For example, last week it announced it will delete facial recognition data that was used to tag photos. 

On to the second angle, an ongoing challenge for local media and tech players is how to educate target markets about advanced tech under the hood. Ward advises to avoid the temptation to use lots of jargon and buzzwords. You’re better served with a plain spoken approach. Talking like a human.
