There is an evident shift toward providing customers with the easiest user experience to see what you have and how or where they can buy it. Selling online doesn’t necessarily require your POS to be online; it can mean many things when it comes to your online marketing strategy in 2021. For example, “Available Near Me” searches are up 100% YOY, which shows that users are willing to pick up the product in-store if it means convenience comes with it, and in this case, the convenience factor is time.

  • To capitalize on this search surge, businesses can provide consumers the answers they need by including their location in search ads, as well as creating ads showcasing the availability of the product consumers are searching via their Google My Business account.
  • In addition to search ads, Google is continuously making it easier for small business owners to list their products online using Google My Business, whether it’s managing the products section of your GMB or soon being able to utilize product listing ads from what you have available in store from their acquisition of Pointy.

Available in-store purchases are also heavily dictated by the product and the impact it has on a consumer’s day-to-day or quality of life. Take mattress manufacturers for example – 45% of all mattress purchases happen in store. Why? Because people want to try before they buy. The same reason why Purple – the online mattress giant – is now putting beds in 1,500 stores across the nation.

How can retailers capitalize?

  • Showcase your products online and give as much information as possible to encourage an in-store purchase. This can be pictures, reviews, pricing, anything that provides the user with confidence that this is the product they want to purchase.
  • Provide easy ways for them to contact you or find your location(s). Accessibility is key.
    • Integrate google and apple maps into your landing page
    • Allow for store offers to be saved onto a customer’s mobile wallet for easy redemption
    • Incorporate a mobile-first design for your landing page experience with click-to-call features to allow users to inquire before they come in
    • Use Google My Business as your storefront to capture 50% of users who never click past the search results page
